Long Night of Research
Large attendance made the Long Night of Research a complete success
We are pleased to report that the Long Night of Research, which took place on May 24 at the Greiner Training Center, was an extremely positive event. Right from the start at 5 p.m., the doors were literally knocked down and numerous interested families and adults with children were bustling around in no time. In total, we welcomed almost 400 visitors.
Bettina Rimpfl (Head of Human Resources), Harald Schweiger (Senior Process Technician) and Siegfried Weiermair (Head of Apprentice Training & Production Technology EDM) were on site for our two companies Exelliq and GPN. Together they supervised our extrusion line set up in the training center, on which plastic pipes are produced. For the Long Night of Research, these were quickly converted into blowpipes, a pyramid of cups served as a target and delicious sweets in Exelliq design were up for grabs as prizes.
The Long Night of Research offered a colorful hands-on program and primarily serves to introduce young people to the so-called MINT professions (jobs in the fields of mathematics, IT, natural sciences, engineering and technology) in an exciting way. The injection molding machine was put into operation to produce a personal reusable cup, which was then filled by the robot controller. A model of a volcano was pulled out of a plastic film on the thermoforming machine, which was then made to “erupt” using simple household items. An individualized key ring could be pressed into a key ring by recycling crushed plastic screw caps. Another experiment showed how foam is created - in this case by foaming it in a bucket. It was also explained what happens to the old foam mattresses at the end. And during upcycling, the children and young people were then able to fill a multi-purpose medical cup with soil, some of which consisted of coffee grounds, and plant seeds in it.
The event was a complete success and our special thanks go to the Greiner Training Center, our team on site and all the visitors!
